Valentine’s, Galentine’s, and Plain Ol’ Times: Dine Out Local this V-Day
It can’t be denied that there is something magical in the air on an evening when everyone goes out into the world to share their love with each other and, in doing so, build a big ol’ love bubble that’s palpable to all. Some say Valentine’s Day is extraordinary; some say it’s too commercial. Whichever way you see it, it’s unavoidable, even on a Monday. Whether you’re into the hype of Valentine’s Day or not, it’s a great time to indulge in what is probably the most decadent food and drink any of us have seen since last year, so get out of the house and try a new spot or a new dish at one of your favorite spots. Here’s what’s happening all around Norfolk this Monday evening, no matter what you’re into:
If you wanna church it up
Freemason Abbey has posted their drool-worthy “Wine, Dine, and Be My Valentine” menu impressive enough to make you forget all about Restaurant Week. The She Crab Soup is there, the excellent pescetarian options, and the Lavender Love Lemondrop martini to Cheers to 2022 with your boo! Dress up or dress down, this historic Norfolk spot is always a direct hit no matter what you’re aiming for.
If you tryna get crafty
The Stockpot is offering their first Cakery & Cocktails cake decorating class for you and your lover or your Galentines. Tickets get you a pre-baked cake and a unique Valentine’s cocktail or glass of Prosecco to keep you inspired as you learn distinctive but easy-to-replicate decorating techniques. A great way to spark your creativity for later on…
If you like to keep it extra local and super sustainable
Commune and the CROP Foundation are taking reservations only to have a taste of their lovely one-off menu featuring approachable yet adventurous farm-to-table fare with elevated twists and an optional wine pairing upgrade. This is a very trustworthy place to go if you have any allergies or dietary restrictions you’d like to stick to.
If you need to know more about the life the grapes led before they found themselves in your glass~
Codex has coordinated with Matt Wallace of Roanoke Valley Wine Co to present you and your nerdy date a 6 course Wine Dinner. Make your reservations on their website to secure your spot and keep an eye out for that menu drop.
If you need it NA
Four Eleven York serves a delectable four-course special menu with an optional wine pairing and a vegan selection at each course. And to top it all off, they’ve got a solid list of artisanal mocktails so you can stick to love-drunk and wake up refreshed and fortified to trudge through these extra few weeks of winter.
If you’re in mixed company
Press 626 has put together quite the four-course prix fixe menu to please even the most discerning palette, with a customary additional wine pairing. But wait, there’s more! They also offer at least 4 different lemonade spritzers for anyone staying dry. Cheers to the wonderful DDs pouring all of us wine-drunk galentines back into our homes on this sloshy evening!
If you just really need a chocolate-covered strawberry
Stripers Waterside has a special prix fixe party ready for you with 2 separate seatings on Monday night where you can sit and gaze lovingly at each other’s entree selection or off into the sunset over the beautiful Elizabeth River if that’s how it’s going for you. Call or email ASAP to claim your spot and your Vanilla Cheesecake topped with chocolate-covered strawberries. (Because all any of us really want out of this day is a chocolate-covered strawberry. There. I said it.)
If you gotta take her out, but you’re just not that mushy
A few other great NFK restaurants are open on Monday if you’re looking to avoid the crowds and the traffic and the hullabaloo, including Nawab Indian Cuisine, Stoney’s Dockside, Razzo Italian, Willoughby Fish House, and Taco Burrito Co.
