NFK! Hide Your Kids, Hide Your Wife! Krampus is Bringing Old World Holiday Horror to Smartmouth
December 9th at Smartmouth Brewing
An ancient evil is making its way through the darkened streets of Norfolk this holiday season, sending chills down the spines of both naughty and nice. The legendary Krampus and his devilish entourage are bringing their old-world traditions and lore to Smartmouth Brewing on December 9th for a night of dark festivities.
Krampusnacht has arisen for its 5th annual appearance, beckoning both families and millennials to partake in the sinister merriment at one of Norfolk’s favorite breweries. From 4-10pm, Smartmouth’s taproom will be invaded by a procession of bavarian beasts.
The devilish Krampus originates from old Germanic yuletide traditions warning children to behave or else face fearful consequences. With a hooved, hairy, demonic appearance, Krampus doles out punishments to naughty kids while St. Nicholas rewards the nice ones. This mythical anti-Santa is gaining modern popularity in the US, with Krampus-themed events, parades, and horror movies bringing his ancient lore to life.
Otzi Tattoo is teaming up with Smartmouth Brewing, both known for their artistic flair and ingenuity, to bring the terror and joy of old Bavarian traditions to Norfolk once again. Families and adults have flocked to Krampusnacht for four years now to embrace the darker side of the holiday spirit.
Krampus isn’t coming alone though, Miles Hoyle, Lori Creek & Dapper Damned, and The Sandtones, will be filling the warehouse with the perfect jams for the occasion. Alongside the bands, other activities will give guests a taste of old-world folklore, from tintype photos and blacksmithing demos to seasonal craft vendors selling creepy creations. And yes, Smartmouth’s legendary craft beer will provide the liquid courage as you await the legendary beast.
The climax of Krampusnacht is the namesake parade, as Krampus himself emerges with a procession of ghoulish followers. Hoofed, horned “schab” creatures taunt the crowd as they walk through. You may spot a witch or two among the depths of wraiths threatening to steal away misbehaving children. It’s all part of the Krampus legend...so have you been naughty or nice this year?
As the procession passes, stay for more music, beer, and macabre merriment. Bring the whole family if you dare, as long as they can handle the frightful sights. With terrifying treats in store for visitors both naughty and nice, this year you can bet Krampus will be making his way through the darkened streets of the 757.
Embrace the ancient lore and darkly playful spirit of the season at Smartmouth’s 5th Annual Krampusnacht. Just beware when the mythical beast comes marching in, because there’s no telling what will happen if you make Krampus’ naughty list!
