Not Your Average Corner Store: Ghent Grab & Go Gives Locals More

Ghent Grab & Go is Norfolk’s newest resident, located in the heart of Ghent on Olney Road. The building was once a 711 years ago; now, the new tenant is a locally-owned neighborhood bodega offering everything from groceries to fine wine to Dole Whip. A local marketplace has been a long time coming, surrounded by neighborhoods full of people craving a quick and easy spot to grab a bottle of wine or a sandwich that’s within walking distance. Before Ghent Grab & Go moved in, Ghent residents had to resort to heading to the Colley area to find a good sandwich or bottle of wine and wait until the next big grocery store haul to pick up sauces or snacks. Now neighbors in the area have it all just a stone’s throw away with this conveniently located market.

Food to Enjoy on the Go

Husband and wife duo Dee and Sean are excited to feature premium products reasonably priced. They offer an assortment of delicious and hearty sandwiches, including a Santa Fe chicken, BBQ chicken, roasted red pepper chicken, and a vegetarian Caprese option. They also recently partnered with a commissary kitchen to roll out rice and curry. They will always feature both a vegan option and a rotating meat option.

Another unique offering from Ghent Grab & Go is their Dole Whip. This refreshing, dairy-free frozen swirl of perfection features pineapple and other tropical rotating flavors. It’s the perfect sweet and tangy treat to satisfy your sweet tooth as you stroll around Ghent.

More Than Your Average Convenience Store

While customers can expect to find the big brands they know and love when grabbing a bag of chips or a candy bar, Ghent Grab & Go also offers locally sourced goods. The local fare ranges from snacks and sauces to cakes and salads. If you like to shop local, you’ll probably recognize some familiar names of local business owners throughout the Hampton Roads area on products carried in the store, providing you with one more reason to love this new marketplace.

One of the most exciting new additions to the market is fresh produce, also locally sourced from farms in Hampton Roads. As we head into peak strawberry season, Ghent Grab & Go recently started offering strawberries from Vaughan Farms Produce and asparagus from the farm. Visitors can expect to find a fully stocked cooler of fresh produce in the next couple of weeks.

On the spirits side, they offer everything from your typical beer selection at local markets to a hearty wine selection and even some non-alcoholic elixirs.

Another unique element of Ghent Grab & Go is the inclusion of international groceries and foods that might be difficult to find otherwise in Norfolk. Examples include a slew of curry options and an entire cooler of foods from Sri Lanka.

Whether you’re looking for some exciting new flavors and spices to diversify your cooking routine, looking for a quick meal on a walk through the neighborhood, or just curious to find a new spot serving local goods, Ghent Grab & Go is worth checking out! And make sure to follow them on Instagram to keep up with their ever-evolving products, especially as they continue to build out their menu and produce section.
