Literature and Libations: Eleanor’s Boozy Book Fair at Reaver Beach

Don’t Miss Norfolk’s Boozy Book Fair at Reaver NFK

Calling all book lovers and beer enthusiasts! Reaver Beach Brewing Company has teamed up with Eleanor’s Norfolk to bring Norfolk residents the ultimate event, pairing books with booze. While this isn’t Eleanor’s first rodeo pairing books and beverages, as they are an intersectional feminist bookstore and bottle shop, it will be Eleanor’s first time throwing their hat in the brewery book fair ring.

The Boozy Book Fair will feature a lineup of local vendors for bookworms across Hampton Roads to gather and enjoy. During the event, book fair-goers can peruse the old post-office-turned-taproom while sipping quality craft beer from Reaver. Other booksellers attending the event are Humanities Behind Bars, Slover Library, Norfolk Zine Press, Violet Fox, Reach Reads, The Muse Writers Center, and Read Books.

Reaver Beach Brewing Co. is one of Norfolk’s newer breweries, although they’re no stranger to the Hampton Roads area. Originating in Virginia Beach as one of the oldest craft breweries in the coastal city, Reaver quickly put itself on the map by offering the well-known Hoptopus double IPA and showcasing unique sour beers. In addition to the vast array of beers on tap at Reaver for book lovers to sip on during the event, there will be a specialty-curated beer cocktail menu. The cocktails will be inspired by some of Eleanor NFK’s favorite authors, fully immersing visitors in the boozy book experience.

Eleanor’s Norfolk is much more than your run-of-the-mill bookstore. They focus on highlighting underrepresented voices and seek to create a safe space for community activism, engagement, and learning. Eleanor’s also strives to sell their spirits similarly, positively impacting the environment and community with every wine and beer they stock on their shelves. Their beer, cider, wine, and mead are sourced from ethically sustained makers to reflect their values of diversity and sustainability. When not selling excellent alcohol and books, Eleanor’s hosts book clubs and events that share opportunities for education and conversation while also amplifying underrepresented voices. Bookstore visitors will notice messages of inclusivity and activism throughout the store and on their website. While attending the Boozy Book Fair is one way you can support this vision, you can also learn more about the various local efforts Eleanor’s supports and find ways to get involved in the community here.

So what do you get when you mix local businesses, story-time soirees, and novel-inspired cocktails? An event for the books! Norfolk prides itself on supporting the unique local businesses that make the city authentic and providing residents with one-of-a-kind events. This novel and cocktail pairing are no different, offering locals a fresh spin on some of Norfolk’s staples.

Check it all out on Saturday, September 3rd, from 4-8 pm at the Reaver NFK taproom.
